The problem

Most payment setups were never designed. They accumulated.

You bought a terminal when you opened. Added a second one for the back counter. Then the website got a shopping cart with its own gateway. Now the fees arrive from three directions and nobody can tell you which one costs the most.

At Simply Technology, we make payment processing simple. From merchant account setup to point of sale and eCommerce integration, we help you accept card payments with confidence, backed by clear pricing, local support, and no surprises.

Plain English

What actually happens when a card gets tapped

Five things happen in about two seconds. Knowing the order makes it a lot easier to tell where a problem is coming from.

01 Card is presented
02 Gateway carries it
03 Processor routes it
04 Bank answers
05 Money settles

The card is presented

Tap, dip, swipe, or typed into a checkout page. Before the card data leaves your counter it gets encrypted, which is why the terminal you use and how it is configured matters more than most people expect.

Tap a step to see what happens there.

The full round trip takes a couple of seconds. When approvals start crawling, the card is almost never the problem. It is the internet connection, the terminal setup, or the gateway. That is the part most processors cannot help you with, and the part we already handle.

Fees, unpacked

Where your rate actually comes from

Every card fee you pay is really three fees stacked together. Two of them are fixed for everybody. One of them is the reason quotes differ.

  • Interchange Goes to your customer's bank. Set by the card networks. Every processor pays the same interchange and nobody can discount it.
  • Assessments Goes to Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Also fixed. Small, but it lands on every transaction.
  • Processor markup The part your processor keeps. It is the only piece that is negotiable, and the only number worth comparing between quotes.

When a quote shows one blended rate, you cannot tell which of the three moved. Ask for the markup on its own line. A processor who will not show you that number has told you something useful.

Every counter is different

Where your payments happen

Most businesses need two or three of these working together, not one of each bolted on separately.

At the counter

Terminals and registers matched to how your front desk actually runs, installed and tested on your network.

On your website

Online payments connected to the platform you already run, with the checkout flow tested before it goes live.

On the go

Tap to pay for techs, drivers, food trucks, and trade shows. Payments work where the work happens.

Over the phone

What we handle

Credit card processing, set up and supported

Pick the pieces you need. We handle the ordering, the install, the network behind it, and the calls afterward.

The account that lets you accept cards in the first place. We handle the application, the underwriting questions, and the setup. We also read the terms before you sign them and tell you what we find.

The connection between your checkout and your processor. We configure it, secure it, and make sure it talks to the software you already use instead of becoming a second system to manage.

Terminals and registers that match your counter. Retail, restaurant, salon, service desk. Includes the install, the network drop it needs, and time spent training the people who will use it every day.

Card payments on your website or online store, connected to your existing platform. We test the full checkout flow with real cards before it goes live, including the part where the receipt has to actually send.

Tap to pay on a phone or tablet for field techs, delivery drivers, food trucks, pop-ups, and trade shows. Same reporting as the counter, so the numbers still reconcile at the end of the day.

Stored payment methods, scheduled charges, automatic retries when a card declines, and a clear record of who authorized what. Good for service agreements, memberships, and monthly plans.

A secure browser screen for keying in cards taken over the phone or by mail, with permissions so you can control who is allowed to run a charge.

Encryption, tokenization, and fraud filters on the transaction side, plus help working through your annual PCI questionnaire and scans. Nobody can promise you will never see a chargeback or a fraud attempt. What we can do is make them harder to pull off and give you a documented process when one shows up.

Why it matters

Payments are the one system that cannot go down quietly

  • Get paid faster, in person, online, or on the go
  • Setup handled for you, with a local team that answers the phone
  • Clear pricing and a plain reading of every fee on the statement
  • Fraud tools and PCI support built into the setup, not sold back later

Terminals sit on your network, behind your firewall, on the same internet connection as everything else. That is why payments belong with the people who already manage the rest of it. We install and support payment hardware across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties.

How to start

Start with a statement, not a sales pitch

The fastest way to find out whether your processing is a problem is to read what you are already paying.

STEP 01

Send a recent statement

Two pages is usually enough. Any processor, any format, no forms to fill out first.

STEP 02

We map every line

We separate interchange and assessments from your processor markup, then flag the fees that have no clear job.

STEP 03

You get it in writing

A side by side comparison with the markup shown on its own. If your current rate is already good, we say so.

Common questions

Questions we get every week

Often no. Plenty of the time the fix is one terminal, one gateway setting, or a network change. We look before we recommend replacing anything, because the expensive version is usually the one nobody diagnosed.

Straightforward merchant accounts usually come back in a few business days. Higher risk categories and businesses with limited processing history take longer and need more paperwork. We will tell you which one you are before you start.

Usually yes. Tell us what you run and we check compatibility before any hardware gets ordered. If it will not work, you hear that up front rather than on install day.

You get notified, and you get help assembling the response with the receipts, signatures, and transaction records that matter. Chargebacks are part of taking cards. A documented process wins more of them than scrambling does.

Yes. Terminals, cabling, switches, firewall, internet. When a card reader stops connecting, it is one call to one local team instead of three vendors pointing at each other.

You will see the term length and the early termination language in writing before you sign. If a term looks bad for you, we will point at it and say so.

Want to know what you are actually paying?

Send a recent statement or book a short call with a local team. Either way you get a straight answer, and a clear next step if you want one.
